The Pinnacle Crew Commitment

Every climb
builds a crew balance.

After a fully paid Kilimanjaro expedition is completed, Pinnacle allocates 1% of the Basic package price or 7% of the Premium package price to its crew welfare and savings programme. Every registered crew member named on that expedition’s final roster receives one equal share.

Premium principleComfort should serve recovery.

It should never pretend the mountain is a hotel.

More comfort · Same mountain judgement

Upgrade the camp.
Never dilute the expedition.

Premium on Kilimanjaro is not theatre. It is the thoughtful removal of avoidable discomfort, distraction and camp friction.

The mountain remains cold, remote and physically demanding. Our role is to create a private support system around that reality: a better place to sit, sleep and reset; a carefully staffed camp; good food; organized equipment; and a guide team empowered to make honest decisions.

Eleven Premium comforts · One shared safety standard

Everything earns
its place on the mountain.

Every additional item requires people, planning and responsible movement. We include comforts because they support the expedition—not simply because they fit inside a brochure.

01

Private hot-shower service

A warm-water shower and private enclosure offered where campsite water, weather and park conditions make it responsible.

02

Furnished sofa lounge

A sheltered place to sit properly, take tea, share the evening briefing and recover without retreating immediately to your tent.

03

Upgraded sleep system

A roomier sleeping tent, raised camp cot and insulated mattress on camping routes. Marangu retains shared hut accommodation, with its sleep arrangements confirmed separately.

04

Portable toilet and privacy

A maintained portable toilet and private enclosure where the route and park rules permit. Your proposal confirms the arrangements for camping routes and Marangu huts.

05

Mountain dining

Warm, varied meals, trail snacks and hot drinks planned around appetite, energy and the realities of eating at altitude.

06

Enhanced crew support

The additional camp team required to move and manage the premium setup without compromising the mountain operation.

07

Charging plan

Pre-arranged power-bank and solar support for essential personal electronics, with realistic limits explained before departure.

08

Gear concierge

A detailed pre-climb inspection, packing support and coordination of selected rental items before you enter the park.

09

Private transfers

Dedicated airport, hotel and trailhead movements, timed around your party rather than shared departure logistics.

10

Two nights in a 4–5-star hotel

Two hotel nights in total: one before and one after the trek. Your proposal names the property, room-sharing arrangement and meal basis.

11

Shared WFR safety standard

All Pinnacle mountain guides assigned to Basic and Premium expeditions hold Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification. Both levels carry emergency oxygen, pulse oximeters and mountain first-aid kits.

12

Pinnacle Crew Welfare & Savings Programme

Pinnacle allocates 7% of the completed, fully paid Premium package price to its company-funded crew programme. Every registered crew member on the final roster receives one equal share, recorded in their individual ledger.

Your written proposal confirms the date, party-size basis, accommodation, inclusions and final price. Unlisted route variants are quoted on enquiry. Route suitability and acclimatization matter at both service levels.

Five-day Marangu and the shorter six-day routes require careful suitability review. Crater camping is a ten-day programme with a very high sleeping location. Premium comfort does not remove altitude risk.

We consider gender in recruitment and everyday working conditions. Our commitment is to fair job opportunities, suitable equipment, privacy and respectful, safe working environments—so women can participate fully in the office and in the field.

The Pinnacle Crew Commitment

Pinnacle Mountain Crew
Welfare & Savings Programme

Built on Frazier Msuya’s social-work background, this company-funded programme turns every Pinnacle Kilimanjaro expedition into a recorded long-term benefit for the crew who make it possible. Pinnacle manages the programme and takes responsibility for its crew welfare commitments and records.

Basic Kilimanjaro package
7%of each completed, fully paid

The contribution comes from the package price; it is not an additional charge to the guest and no money is deducted from crew wages. Each expedition’s allocation is divided equally among all registered crew members on its final roster.

“I believe tourism can be one of Tanzania’s strongest forces against poverty when the work of local people is supported by a meaningful welfare programme that improves life for them and their families.”

01 / Equal expedition shares

The formula is visible.

Once the expedition is completed and its package payment has cleared, management records the final paid climb price, contribution percentage, total crew allocation and registered crew count. Every person named on the final crew roster receives one equal share, recorded against that expedition.

02 / Individual records

Every crew member can see their own balance.

Pinnacle maintains a designated programme account and a private individual ledger for each participating crew member. The crew is briefed on the calculation, and each person can request their own contribution statement. Personal balances, medical information and beneficiary details are not made public.

03 / When the balance can be used

Support at meaningful moments.

Accrued balances may be accessed under the written programme rules for serious illness or medical treatment, recognised education or skills development, or separation from Pinnacle service. Resignation does not erase an earned balance. If a member dies, the verified balance is paid to their nominated beneficiary or lawful estate.

At every completed five-year service anniversary, the member’s available balance matures automatically. They may withdraw it or leave it to continue accumulating. Any earlier approved withdrawal reduces the remaining balance.

04 / The foundation remains

Fair pay and legal protections come first.

This company-funded benefit does not replace wages, legally required employment or worker-compensation obligations, necessary equipment, safe working conditions, severance or other contractual rights. Client tips remain voluntary and separate.

The programme is an internal employer-funded benefit, not a pension, insurance policy, investment product or public deposit scheme. Its detailed rules form part of Pinnacle’s written crew-benefit policy.

02 / The expedition rhythm
Stress · Recover · Adapt · Perform

Protect tomorrow’s
climber.

Summit success is a chain of well-managed days. Premium service is most useful when it reinforces the daily rhythm instead of distracting from it.

01
Before the gate

Prepare the person, not only the kit

We match route and duration to your experience, review training and medical considerations, inspect essential equipment and organize your private mountain departure.

02
On the trail

Move deliberately

Your guide sets a conservative rhythm from day one. Camp comfort supports the cycle that matters: stress, recover, adapt and perform again tomorrow.

03
At high camp

Reduce every avoidable decision

Food, water, layers, gloves, headlamp and daypack are staged before rest so summit-night energy is reserved for climbing and honest communication.

04
After the mountain

Descend well and recover properly

The expedition finishes only after a safe descent, a meaningful crew farewell and a supported return to warmth, food and unhurried rest.

The non-negotiable

Safety is never
a premium upgrade.

All Pinnacle mountain guides assigned to Basic and Premium expeditions are Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certified. Both service levels carry emergency oxygen, pulse oximeters and mountain first-aid kits, alongside daily wellbeing checks and the authority to descend.

Premium service buys added space, privacy and recovery support. It does not buy better permission to take a risk, and it can never guarantee that your body will acclimatize.

04 / Questions worth asking
Before you choose

Premium,
explained honestly.

01Is a hot shower available every day?

It is offered where water supply, campsite rules, weather and crew logistics allow. On a mountain, responsible water use and safety come before an amenity, so it should never be presented as an unconditional daily guarantee.

02Which route works best for a premium climb?

Lemosho and the Northern Circuit are natural starting points because they allow a more measured itinerary, but the right route depends on your available days, experience, group profile and the season. We recommend the route before adding the comforts.

03Does extra comfort guarantee a summit?

No. Better sleep, warmth and organization can support recovery, but no camp setup can guarantee acclimatization. Itinerary design, pacing, honest symptom reporting and professional judgement remain fundamental.

04How many hotel nights are included?

Two nights in total at a 4–5-star hotel: one before the mountain programme and one after it. These are additional to the advertised mountain days. The property, room sharing and hotel meal basis are confirmed in your written quote.

05Does Premium Marangu use tents?

Marangu remains a shared-hut route. We confirm its comfort setup, including permitted lounge, toilet and shower arrangements, before booking. The standard camping-route setup is not assumed to be available at every hut.

06How does the crew welfare and savings contribution work?

After a fully paid Premium expedition is completed, Pinnacle allocates 7% of its paid package price to the company-funded Mountain Crew Welfare & Savings Programme. Every registered crew member on the final expedition roster receives one equal share in their private individual ledger. It is included in the package price, not added as a guest surcharge or deducted from wages. Basic climbs contribute 1%. Voluntary tips and all statutory employment obligations remain separate.

07Can this expedition be arranged for one climber?

Yes, subject to route logistics, park requirements and a bespoke quotation. The same format can also be designed for couples, families and small private groups.

Your mountain. Your support system.

Choose the route first. Then build the right camp around it.

Tell us your party, available days, trekking background and preferred level of comfort. We will design a private proposal without promising what altitude cannot guarantee.

Emergency planning

Helicopter evacuation
on request through Pinnacle.

Pinnacle can help request helicopter evacuation through an external aviation provider when needed. This is a separately charged service: helicopter flights, medical care and onward transfers are not included in Basic or Premium package prices unless your written quote expressly says otherwise.

Availability is subject to the provider’s operational approval, aircraft availability, weather, landing access and aircraft limitations. A request does not guarantee a flight or a response time. Your guides will follow the available evacuation plan; urgent descent and ground evacuation must not be delayed while waiting for an aircraft.

Before travel, confirm with your insurer that your policy covers the booked activity, your maximum altitude—including Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres where applicable—helicopter search and rescue, medical evacuation and treatment. Check exclusions, payment authorisation and any excess. Share your policy and emergency-assistance details with Pinnacle. Costs not accepted by the insurer remain payable by the guest.

Ask Pinnacle about evacuation arrangements and extra charges

Budget before you travel

Mountain crew tipping
with clear expectations.

Tips are customary and appreciated, but voluntary. These are Pinnacle’s suggested planning ranges for good service, not compulsory fees. Tips are additional to your package price unless your written quote expressly includes them, and never replace wages or determine the care you receive.

Mountain rates are the whole group’s tip to each crew member—not a charge to every climber.
RoleSuggested amountBasis
Lead guideUS$20–25Per guide, per mountain day
Assistant guideUS$15–20Per guide, per mountain day
CookUS$15–20Per cook, per mountain day
PorterUS$8–10Per porter, per mountain day
Specialist porterUS$10–15Per person, per day performing the extra role

Calculate each role’s daily rate × number of people in that role × days worked, then add the amounts and divide the group total among the climbers. Specialist roles can include summit assistance, toilet care or camp service; use the specialist rate instead of adding a second full porter tip for the same day.

Example: two climbers on a seven-day trek with one lead guide at US$25/day, one assistant at US$20/day, one cook at US$20/day and eight porters at US$10/day would budget US$1,015 for the whole group, or US$507.50 each. This illustrates the calculation, not a promised crew size. Solo climbs and larger Premium teams can cost more per guest; Meru and Lengai use their own confirmed rosters and days.

Pinnacle will confirm the crew roster and a suggested tip breakdown before departure. At the end of the trek, give labelled envelopes directly to each crew member where practical. If tips are pooled for distribution, agree and record the total and each allocation with the crew present. No management deductions should be taken from tips.

Pinnacle’s company-funded 1% Basic and 7% Premium Kilimanjaro crew welfare contributions are separate from guest tips. They are not deducted from tips and do not replace them. Read the crew programme.

Cash in Tanzanian shillings or accepted US-dollar notes is practical; agree the currency and conversion beforehand. Prepare smaller denominations. EUR and GBP amounts depend on the exchange rate, so agree any equivalent rather than assuming the website’s package conversion applies to tips.
