Tanzania visa fees
& eligibility.
These are common tourism fees published by the Tanzanian Embassy. Exemptions, special cases and other travel purposes can change which category applies. Confirm the fee in the official application before paying.
| Category | Published fee | Check before applying |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary / single-entry tourist visa | US$50 | Commonly used by eligible non-US tourists; confirm your nationality’s conditions. |
| US citizens travelling for tourism | US$100 | The Embassy lists a multiple-entry visa valid for 12 months; this does not mean a continuous 12-month stay. |

Some travellers are visa-exempt; others need advance clearance. Use the current Immigration guidelines rather than an old nationality list. Referral applicants should obtain clearance before making travel reservations. Visa-on-arrival eligibility must also be checked for your passport and entry point.
From your itinerary
to your travel documents.
- 01
Confirm the right category
Match your passport, purpose and planned stay to the government guidance. A safari holiday and a volunteer placement need different checks.
- 02
Apply through the official portal
Use an email address you can access, enter the requested details carefully and retain your application reference. Cross-check names and passport numbers before submitting.
- 03
Upload, review and pay
Supply the requested documents, then follow the government payment instructions. Keep the payment receipt and application reference together.
- 04
Check the decision and prepare to travel
Track the application through the portal. Once granted, check the visa details and keep a printed and offline copy with your passport and booking documents.
Immigration quotes ten days for standard online processing, with referral applications handled differently. Apply well ahead; this is not a guaranteed turnaround. See official processing guidance.
Entry insurance.
Start with your arrival point.
Foreign visitors subject to the inbound insurance requirement must obtain the prescribed cover. Mainland implementation began on 1 October 2026. Use the official insurer for your first point of entry and arrange your policy before travelling.
National Insurance Corporation (NIC)
For your initial arrival through a mainland airport, seaport or land border.
Official NIC insurance portalZanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC)
For your initial arrival through Zanzibar. Use the government’s inbound insurance portal.
Official Zanzibar insurance portalVisiting both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar? NIC confirms that a valid inbound policy obtained at your first point of entry can cover subsequent travel between the two, subject to its terms. You do not need to buy a second mandatory policy just because your covered journey includes both.
Check eligibility, exemptions, the current premium, dates and benefits on the official portal. Keep your certificate available offline. Insurance charges are separate from visa fees and are included in a Pinnacle package only when your written quote expressly includes them.
Also confirm suitable personal travel cover for your activities, medical needs and evacuation. For a mountain trek, ask your insurer about the maximum altitude and helicopter rescue; an entry certificate alone does not confirm these benefits.

Where do I apply for a Tanzania eVisa?
Use the Tanzania Immigration eVisa portal linked on this page. Pinnacle Tanzania provides travel-planning guidance; we do not issue visas or take government visa payments.
Do all travellers need a Tanzania visa?
No. Eligibility depends on your nationality, passport and purpose of travel. Check the government’s current exemption and referral lists before choosing how to apply.
Can Pinnacle guarantee approval or a faster decision?
No. Immigration controls the decision and timing. We can help confirmed Pinnacle guests check itinerary details and provide accurate booking information for their application.
Can I volunteer on a tourist visa?
Do not assume a tourism visa authorises volunteering. Confirm the correct entry permission and any work or residence requirements with the host institution and Immigration before travel or starting a role.
This guide is general information. Immigration determines eligibility and admission. For a nationality-specific or unusual case, contact Tanzania Immigration or the relevant Tanzanian mission.
