Who it suits

Travellers with limited time who want both Serengeti and the crater, and can budget for a bush flight. This is a compact introduction, with one night in each area.

How the pace works

The inbound flight protects wildlife time on Day 1. Day 2 combines a morning game drive with the transfer out of Serengeti; Day 3 combines the crater and the return to Arusha. Choose four or five days if you want more time in the parks.

Day by day

Your journey,
day by day.

This is the proposed itinerary. Your written proposal confirms accommodation, inclusions and any changes for your dates. Conditions and safe operating decisions can change the daily plan.

  1. Day 01

Arusha → fly to Seronera → Serengeti game drive

Transfer from your Arusha hotel to the airport for the arranged light-aircraft flight. Meet your private driver-guide at Seronera and begin exploring central Serengeti, with a picnic or camp lunch matched to the flight schedule.

Overnight: Central Serengeti · night 1

The morning flight and airport transfer are confirmed in your quote; flights may have intermediate stops.
  2. Day 02

    Morning Serengeti → Ngorongoro highlands

Use the early part of the day for wildlife viewing, then leave enough time to travel out of Serengeti and into the Ngorongoro highlands. Settle into your selected rim-area or Karatu accommodation ready for tomorrow's early start.

Overnight: Ngorongoro highlands or Karatu · night 2

A game-drive and transfer day, not a full day in Serengeti.
  3. Day 03

    Early Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha

Depart early and descend into the crater when park arrangements permit. Explore with your guide, have a picnic lunch as planned, then ascend and return to Arusha.

Overnight: Programme ends in Arusha; extra hotel night by arrangement

Crater visit and road return; the arrival time in Arusha depends on conditions.

Before you travel

Getting ready
for your trip.

Timing

Available to plan across the year, subject to flights and accommodation. Central Serengeti wildlife is not dependent on the northern river-crossing season; rain and road conditions still affect the experience.

Arrival and departure

Be in Arusha before Day 1 for the morning departure. Arusha Airport (ARK) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) are different airports. A Zanzibar departure can be quoted as a revised fly-in arrangement. Keep onward international flights outside a tight Day 3 connection.

Choose your accommodation

Ask for a mid-range or luxury lodge and tented-camp proposal. The exact properties, room arrangements and meal plan are named before you book; a tented camp can have a proper bed and private bathroom.

Plan for the road

Safari tracks can be dusty and uneven. Tell us about mobility needs, back problems and children's ages so we can assess the route, vehicle and accommodation.

Pack for changing temperatures

Bring light layers, a warmer layer for early starts and the highlands, sun protection and your camera or binoculars.

Keep sightings in perspective

Your guide follows wildlife activity and park rules. Animal sightings and encounters cannot be guaranteed.

Confirm the flight allowance

Your quote names the carrier, departure airport and baggage allowance. Bring suitable soft luggage if required by the selected aircraft.

Your questions

The details
worth asking.

Why fly into Serengeti?

Three days is tight for both destinations. Flying in removes the long outbound road transfer and leaves more of the first day for wildlife viewing.

Is a three-day road-only version possible?

Ask us to assess it, but it involves much more driving. We recommend extending the trip if flying does not suit your budget.

Will this reach Northern Serengeti - Mara River?

No. This short itinerary focuses on central Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Choose our six-day migration safari for two nights in Northern Serengeti - Mara River.

What does the package cost?

Request a dated quote for your party size and accommodation level. The required inbound flight is included in the proposal; it is not an undisclosed extra.

Budget before you travel

Safari tipping
with clear expectations.

Tips are customary and appreciated, but voluntary. These are Pinnacle’s suggested planning ranges for good service, not compulsory fees. Tips are additional to your package price unless your written quote expressly includes them, and never replace wages or determine the care you receive.

Safari rates use different units: check the final column before multiplying.
RoleSuggested amountBasis
Private safari driver-guideUS$20–30Per vehicle, per safari day, shared by your party
Dedicated camping-safari cookUS$10–15Per cook, per safari day, shared by your party
Lodge or camp staffUS$5–10Per guest, per night, through the shared staff tip box

Example: a four-person party choosing US$25 per vehicle per day for a seven-day safari would give its driver-guide US$175 in total, or US$43.75 per guest. Lodge tips are budgeted separately for the nights actually stayed.

Give your driver-guide and dedicated cook their tips directly at the end of their service. Use each lodge’s shared staff tip box and check whether a gratuity is already included. Separate walking guides, rangers and activity teams have their own arrangements; ask before budgeting for them.

Cash in Tanzanian shillings or accepted US-dollar notes is practical; agree the currency and conversion beforehand. Prepare smaller denominations. EUR and GBP amounts depend on the exchange rate, so agree any equivalent rather than assuming the website’s package conversion applies to tips.
